Profile: Al.Chi.Mi.A. Srl produces eye banking, vitreoretinal surgery and tissue staining products. Hypothermic corneal storage is a short-term preservation of donor corneas. Excised corneas are stored in corneal chambers or eusol-C at 2°-8°C for up to fourteen days. At this temperature, endothelial cell metabolism and pumping function are minimal. Corneal swelling is prevented by dextran, and bacterial growth by gentamicin. Vitreoretinal surgery includes intraoperative endotamponades and long-term intraocular tamponades. The perfluorocarbons are made of fully fluorinated perfluoro-n-octane or perfluorodecaline.
