Profile: Bacterin International Inc. designs, tests and licenses bioactive coatings for medical applications. We specialize in the field of biomaterials research, development, and commercialization. We incorporate a variety of classes of active agents into our coatings that include antimicrobial, analgesic, anti-thrombotic, anti-inflammatory, and other drugs suitable for medical applications. These agents can be applied to medical devices such as wound drains, catheters, connectors and ports, and fixation devices. Our Elutia™ family of silicone surgical wound drains have designed and developed to utilize this technology. The drains have a hydrogel coating that contains the antimicrobial agent silver sulfadiazine. This coating has been shown to reduce microbial contamination on the surface of the wound drain.
