Gelita absorbable haemostatic sponges are made of alpha-gelatin or pharmaceutical gelatin. It is a purified protein obtained by the partial acidic hydrolysis of collagen, known as collagen hydrolysate. This protein is composed of 18 of the 20 human amino acids. It is the most frequently occurring protein in man and the functional building block of intercellular connective and supporting tissues. GelitaSpon® pharmaceutical grade gelatine sponge USP absorbs 50 times its own weight and by platelet adhesion through surface contact provides the fastest hemostasis within 2 minutes in comparison to other materials.
