A spiral computed tomogram allows imaging of the entire abdomen and pelvis during one breath hold, eliminating respiratory artefacts. It is a detailed cross-sectional picture of areas inside the body. A computer linked to an X-ray machine that scans the body in a spiral path creates the images. This radiographic technique allows the capture of a continuous 360-degree x-ray image. It is also called helical computed tomography.
