Profile: Synapse Biomedical Inc. develops the NeuRx diaphragm pacing system (DPS)™. This system is useful for treating spinal cord injuries, in diaphragm conditioning in muscular dystrophies, and in respiratory short-term intensive care setting. The DPS™ introduces neurostimulation technology, which is designed to help spinal cord injury patients decrease their dependency on mechanical ventilation. It consists of four electrodes implanted in the diaphragm to stimulate the muscle, a fifth electrode under the skin to complete the electrical circuit, a connector holder, a cable and an external battery powered pulse generator. Its electrodes are designed using 316 stainless steel and other biocompatible materials with implantation. Our NeuRx™ clinical station provides intra-operative stimulation and sensing of stimulation response, and records the diaphragm motor point's response to the stimulation. It is used to optimize the amplitude, pulse width, pulse frequency, respiration rate & inspiration interval post operatively, and it communicates the desired setting to the NeuRx DPS™ pulse generator.
