Blood glucose meters are devices used to monitor blood glucose in the home or at the bedside in hospital. These meters are used for determining the approximate concentration of glucose in the blood. It is a key element of home blood glucose monitoring (HBGM) by people with diabetes mellitus or with proneness to hypoglycemia. A small drop of blood obtained by pricking the skin with a lancet is placed on a disposable test strip, which the meter reads and uses to calculate the blood glucose level. A Korotkoff tone identifier, which is connected through further elements with the microphone and the differentiator, ensures that only those signals from the microphone, which occur simultaneously with a heartbeat-induced pressure fluctuation are delivered as Korotkoff tones and evaluated for determination of the systolic and diastolic pressure.

A breast pump is a hand-operated or motor-driven device that creates suction. It collects mothers' milk into a baby bottle with a gentle rhythmical action. Most pumps contain a small motor that creates the suction, a breast shield, and a tube or channel to flow the milk into a collection bottle. Mechanically, a breast pump is directly analogous to a milking machine used in commercial dairy production. It may also be used to stimulate lactation for women with a low milk supply, or who have just given birth.
